I have been teaching music and drama to students in Pre-K through eighth grade for the past 22 years. I have provided instruction in general music, chorus, music technology, band, strings, drama and musical theater, as well as private instrumental lessons. I did my undergraduate training in Music Education and Voice at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ and earned a Masters Degree in Music Education from Boston University. I have taught in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts, and I am excited to continue my teaching career in Lexington! This is my 4th year at Hastings.
My music teaching allows students to explore a number of facets: singing, playing instruments, reading and notating music, composing and improvising are combined with creative movement, folk-dancing, drama and children’s literature. Through this approach, students build foundational skills in music over time, while being given the opportunity to explore their unique musical voices and to make cross-curricular connections.
Although I grew up playing the piano and clarinet, voice is my primary instrument. As a professional singer, I have been fortunate to perform in world-class choral ensembles as a member of the Westminster Symphonic Choir and the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh. With these choral ensembles I have sung with groups such as the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the Pittsburgh Symphony. Teaching young people to sing well is a passion of mine!
I am a mom to three boys ages 16, 12, and 9 who keep my very busy when I am not at school! My husband is also a music teacher. He is the Choral Director at Lexington High School. I am also the co-director of the Lexington Children’s Chorus. Needless to say, our family loves music!
I look forward to a wonderful year of music-making with the Hastings students!
